Nice to know where you are! You will find Winthontlaan 1 on Kanaleneiland in the Merwede area. Where does the name Kanaleneiland come from?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is actually quite simple! Kanaleneiland is named after its location between three canals, writes newspaper Trouw<\/a>. If you look at the map of Utrecht, you will see that Kanaleneiland is indeed a kind of 'island' between the Merwedekanaal, the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal and the Leidsche Rijn. If you look closely, you see that the Merwedekanaal and the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal come together at Westraven and flow around Kanaleneiland on both sides. The Leidsche Rijn canal separates Kanaleneiland from Oog in Al and makes Kanaleneiland a real island, surrounded by three different bodies of water.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another fun fact: Kanaleneiland has another nickname. During a certain period many rose bushes were planted in the district. Nowadays, there are no more roses to be found, but the district still goes by its nickname 'the rose island'.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
